What is a Roundtable Session?
Our roundtable sessions offer a chance to dive into a topic with an expert presenter, or team of presenters. They provide an opportunity to dig deeply into a particular topic during a 90 to 120-minute presentation.
Description
S. Kent Butler with a bit of “realism” and “authenticity” will use his personal life story to speak truth to the effects of privilege on his own mental wellness and resolve, while sharing best practices for leaders in eradicating culturally biased barriers. “RAW” will also highlight how to successfully balance counseling and self-care with social justice advocacy. This presentation will also provide counselors with insights and “wisdom” that encourages them to intentionally lead by get into “good trouble” as they proactively work on behalf of their clients; Anti-Racist co-conspirators fighting against injustices on a global scale.

Presenter Bio
S. Kent Butler, PhD. NCC, NCSC
Dr. S. Kent Butler, Jr., NCC, NCSC, is a Professor of Counselor Education at the University of Central Florida. Dr. Butler presently serves as President of the American Counseling Association (2021-2022) and is an ACA Fellow. He has served the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development as President, ACA Governing Council Representative, and is a proud member of AMCD’s Multicultural Counseling Competencies Revisions Committee which produced the Multicultural Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC). Dr. Butler formerly served the University of Central Florida as the Chief Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Officer and is a National Association of Chief Diversity Officers in Higher Education Fellow (2020-2021). He has also served as a Faculty Fellow for Inclusive Excellence within the university’s Office of the Provost. Dr. Butler is faculty advisor to Chi Sigma Iota; Counselor Education Doctoral Student Organization; Project for Haiti Knights; and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
