Fireside Chat- June 27, 2021

Join us for a Fireside Chat

TCR is pleased to offer a Fireside Chat, a safe and welcoming space for counseling professionals to meet and connect with each other. We will gather in a spirit of restoration and reflection. We hope to gain strength from each other’s cultural and spiritual experiences. We have a loose structure to guide our time which can be adjusted to meet our needs.

Hosts for the above session:

Carlos Obed Texidor Maldonado is from Caguas, Puerto Rico. He has been providing addiction treatment services for 21 years. He began his career providing treatment services for individuals within the Department of Corrections. Carlos has worked with diverse populations in outpatient and inpatient care levels (for SUD and Gambling Disorder). He enjoyed working with adolescents. Carlos also enjoyed helping the monolingual Spanish-speaking members of his community navigate various systems. He currently works as a Clinical Supervisor for Marion County Health and Human Services-Addiction Treatment Services. He supervises outpatient services, including the surrounding rural areas. Carlos is also the clinical supervisor for specialty courts (Adult Drug Court, Mental Health Court, and Veterans Court), Student Opportunity for Achieving Results (SOAR) (reintegration program designed to reduce recidivism), and the LEAD (Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion) Navigators.

Carlos is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor III, a Certified Gambling Addiction Counselor II through the Mental Health Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO), and a Registered LPC Intern with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBPLCT). Carlos earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health and a Master of Business Administration at Corban University. He is a first-year student in the Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral program at Oregon State University. The focus of his research and dissertation will examine factors of recidivism in the United States.

Yun Shi is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a doctoral candidate at Oregon State University. She has worked with many immigrants, refugees, and other highly vulnerable and underserved community members. Yun has also provided training and supervision to dozens of mental health clinicians, where she sees high levels of stress expressed in different forms but just as impactful. Yun sees community, support, and compassion as essential to carry out the challenging but meaningful work that we do every day as counselors and counselor educators, and feels honored to be part of the Counseling Roundtable Community.
